Independent Evaluation of CPAs

First Nations, to guide consultation on oil and gas development in NE British
Columbia. This project involved an extensive survey of provincial agencies,
First Nations representatives and industry representatives, a detailed analysis
by an interdisciplinary Dovetail project team, and the preparation of
recommendations for the CPA Implementation Committee. The results of the
evaluation are being used inform government-to-government negotiations for the
renewal of the CPAs.
Community
leaders forge ahead on the Coquitlam River Watershed Strategy
Project leaders from the City of Coquitlam and Kwikwetlem First Nation
are being assisted by Julie Gardner in a governance strategy for the
Coquitlam River Watershed. This is phase IV in an ambitious, community-based
project to improve collaboration in watershed management.
Ongoing
contributions to wild salmon conservation
An international conference on brought together 200 fishery resource managers,
scientists, fishing industry representatives, community leaders and
conservationists in November 2011 to explore issues and opportunities
surrounding the theme of
climate change and salmon in the Pacific Northwest. Julie Gardner assisted
the Wild Salmon Centre with reporting on this event.
The
Cohen Commission of Inquiry into the
Decline of Sockeye Salmon in the Fraser River began to wrap up proceedings
at the beginning of 2012. The exhibits included multiple reports by Julie
Gardner and she was cited by those giving testimony on several occasions. (See also Wild Salmon Conservation
Research and Planning under Projects.)
